Robert worked hard to excel in all endeavors personally and professionally. He was known for his amazing non-stop energy and great love for family and friends. Robert had amazing energy and zeal for life with a keen sense of humor and love for laughter. He considered his family and friends to be the greatest accomplishments of his life and was the adventure and fun-filled hub to his friends. He had an amazing ability to include everyone from all areas of interest and backgrounds and meld them into a cohesive group to which have all become life long friends.
He was an exceptional athlete, with one of his greatest athletic accomplishments being a member of a two time NCAA National Championship tennis team in college at Southwest Texas State University and was a two time national doubles champion in sectionals. Several of his passions shared with family and friends included mountain biking, hiking, camping, and fishing. He had a profound appreciation for adventure and the great outdoors, and would go to great lengths to ensure a full complement of friends were always included.
As a cofounder of Keystone Research, Robert’s work ethic and attention to detail lead the company to international recognition as one of the top ophthalmic clinical research centers. Keystone has been a leading investigational site for virtually every clinical trial that lead to the approval of sight saving ocular medicines for the last 3 decades.
The staff of Keystone Research became an extended family for Robert and his family and he became intertwined personally and professionally with monitors, sponsors, staff and pretty much everyone he met. His loss will be felt forever, as will his smile and infectious laughter. He is survived by his wife, Carol, and daughters Alexandra, Sierra, and Andrea. He is also survived by his mother, Ann Stapper, siblings, John Stapper and Carol Stapper Luehrs, as well as many beloved cousins, friends, nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2019 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Austin, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 12:00 p.m., June 4, 2019 at Stapper Cemetery, Schertz, Texas.
