
I knew him as Uncle Bobby.  He held me on his lap when I cried as a child many a time and sang, "Don't cry little Fishy, don't cry, don't cry."  I suspect it was a song he made up, but I remember it still with comfort in my heart.  Uncle Bobby was generous with his time and equipment.  We visited his house on Avenue G in Austin, Texas,  often until I was 10 years old and our families drifted apart. His sister, Ferdel, (my Mother) died in 2008 in October.  I did not realize that fact until just now.  I hope they are enjoying each other in Heaven.  All 7 brothers and sisters in the Spielman family are dead and gone now.  Only the memories remain.  I loved you Uncle Bobby!

Margie,  so sorry to hear of your father's passing.  I remember how nice he and your mother were at a party in your garage in high school. I hope all is well with you. I think of you often. I have 2 grown kids and live in Austin. Take care. Holly



Bob was my uncle, my mother's younger brother. He was always in my life through my mother's stories. I met him in person when he came back after WWII and then he, and Lucy, were my heroes.



I knew "Uncle Bob" from his travels with Meyer's Mountain Men. My fondest memory is of a camping/fishing trip my friend Stu and I made with Uncle Bob back around 1987.  At the time, Stu and I were still teenagers.  Uncle Bob packed so much gear that we actually towed a second boat behind us just for our supplies.  It was a weekend of special stories and memories that will last a lifetime.  Bob Spielman was (and is) my hero.

Lucy and family, We are so very sorry to hear of your loss.  Bob was a wonderful person who we enjoyed visiting with from time to time at neighborhood gatherings.  It is a great loss to us and our neighborhood.  Our prayers and thoughts are with you at this sad time.

To Lucy, Margaret,Paul, and family, to each of you our deepest sympathy.  He was such a great person to be around and hear his stories.  Two of the shorest verses in the Bible are; God is good and Jesus wept. We all weep for his loss. Mr. Spielman was truely a great and wise man.



Please accept our sincere condolences.  Not long after we moved in next door (across the street), Bob gave us a cutting from his fig tree, which has flourished in our back yard.  He also gave me advice when I planted pecan trees.  He really had a green thumb, and always waved or said hello when I saw him out working in the yard.  We will fondly remember him whenever we enjoy our figs and pecans.  Dan and Brenda Cronch



I had the privilege of working with Bob at Murchison Junior High.  He helped me daily understand what was really important in life working with junior high students.  Tardies, missing pencils, and lost homework needed to take a back seat to really understanding young men and women.  I use to get mad at Bob, but I always ended up in his office laughing and crying as we solved our differences.  He helped many a student and teacher, and I feel blessed to have worked along side of him. There is no doubt that he influenced my career as I quoted him often after I became a principal. Many times I have thought of Bob.  He was one of those rare human beings who was always forthright and honest in his evaluations of people and events. It was my good fortune to serve under Colonel Bob Spielman in the 4162nd USAR School.  He was among the greatest of the Greatest Generation. I had the pleasure of being acquainted with Bob & Lucy through my friendship with their daughter Margie.  Bob & Lucy were always very gracious hosts. I was a counselor at Lamar Junior High School with Bob for a number of years back in the 1960's.  He was a truly a wonderful person and a good friend.  Though I have not seen him in several years, I will miss him.  To Lucy and the rest of the family, my thoughts and prayers are with you.  May God give you the strength you need to get through this grieving period.



I knew Bob as a student at Lamar Jr. High and again as a personal friend through Tom Pilgrim, my ex-husband. He was a truly remarkable man who will be sorely missed. I truly enjoyed his company on the rare occassions I was in his presence. My condolences to you all.
