Robert B. Morrison

Dr. Robert B. Morrison Dr. Robert B. Morrison died peacefully at home July 20, 2005. Dr. Morrison was born at home on Carrington’s Bluff, 1900 David Street, in Austin on December 22, 1912 to Mr. Charles W. Morrison and Mary Williams Donaldson Morrison. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Verna Mae. Other surviving family members include his sister Mary Virginia Donaldson Carter of Austin, Texas; great nephews Edward S. Butts and John M. Butts and great nieces Katherine Butts Whitehead and Evelyn Butts Reid Chavis, all of Pensacola, Florida. Dr. Morrison was preceded in death by his parents; brother Ralph H. Morrison; aunt Virginia Williams and niece Judy Morrison Butts. Dr. Morrison was an honors graduate in 1939 of the Louisiana State University School of Medicine. After his internship at Hillman Hospital, Birmingham, Alabama, training in chest diseases at the Texas Sanatorium, and residency at Union Printers Home Hospital, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Dr. Morrison practiced pulmonary medicine in Austin for 40 years until his retirement in 1983. He was former president of the Texas State Tuberculosis Association and Travis County Tuberculosis Association, a former member of the Board of Governors of the American College of Chest Physicians, Honorary Director of the American Lung Association of Texas, former Medical Director of Brackenridge Hospital and Director of the Brackenridge TB Clinic, and a life member of the Texas Medical Association. He was also a graduate of Austin High School and the University of Texas and did post-graduate work in bronchoscopy at Temple University in Philadelphia. A life-long sportsman, long-time pilot and amateur radio operator, Dr. Morrison was a member of The Admirals Club, Knights of the Symphony, The Headliners Club and The Citadel Club, Chi Phi Fraternity, and who, with his father, Mr. Charlie, held two of the very rare life-time swimming passes to Barton Springs Pool. Upon his retirement, Dr. Bob was an avid supporter of the University of Texas Baseball program. He will long be remembered for his quick wit and southern charm. Graveside services will be Saturday, July 23, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lockhart Cemetery, with the Rev. Doug Fletcher of Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church officiating. Pallbearers will be Tim Casey, Mike Casey, Marshall Kuykendall, Rod Coffin, Jim Guleke and James Robert Guleke. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. John S. Murray and Dr. Vincent Murray.
