Robert attended South High School in Wichita and Wichita State University where he studied education. He moved to Austin in 1971 to begin a career in teaching while completing a Masters Degree at Southwest Texas State University. He found his forever love in the school where he first taught and shared 36 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sylvia. Together they worked tirelessly towards the education of children of all ages. After spending 30 years of teaching in the public school system, he enjoyed a life of retirement filled with traveling, working in his workshop and spending time with his growing family. He found a great passion in spending time with his two young grandsons and watching them grow.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Zavaleta-Ford, his daughter JoEllen "Joey" Hall, and his grandsons Parker and Carson Hall. He is also survived by his sister Linda Nighswonger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Lawrence Ford and Alice Marie Ford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Vincent de Paul and Mobile Loaves and Fishes.
Visitation and Rosary will be held Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Cook Walden Funeral Home 6100 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78752. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, Sept. 1, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 5909 Reicher Drive Austin, Tx 78723
