Robert R. Childers, Jr. (Bob) Robert R. Childers, Jr. was born on October 2, 1925 to Robert Childers, Sr. and Hazel Rowell Childers in Waco, Texas and died on April 22, 2005 at North Austin Medical Center. After graduating from Waco High School, he graduated in 1949 from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas where he was in the Corps. In 1951, he earned his Masters Degree from U.T. Austin. Bob taught in the Austin Public Schools at Baker and Lamar Junior Highs until 1960 when the family moved to Dilley, Texas where he had his first job as principal until 1966. The family always remembered Dilley as a special place. In 1966, the Childers moved to Kyle, Texas where Bob was principal of Kyle High School. Later when Kyle consolidated with Wimberley and Buda, he became the first Hays Consolidated I.S.D. principal. Bob was always very proud of Hays High School and the students who were the spirit of it. In the later years he was involved in real estate and used his woodworking skills to build and redo homes. He was quite the craftsman. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and stepmother, Babe Childers. His late guardians Harold and Margaret Killeen helped make for the good life he had and who he loved dearly. He is survived by his beloved wife, Bondell Childers, brother, Dick Childers and wife Linda, and three children, Pamela and Art OMary, Marc and Mary Lou Childers, and Brad Childers. He is also survived by his grandchildren Avery Kristinik, Bradley Childers, Tracy Childers and Stacy Childers, stepson Edward and JoAnn Cox and step grandchildren Edward Cox III and Brandy Smith. Also missing Bob are his Mexican redhead parrot, Baby, two precious Chihuahuas, Sam and Lila, and two good cats, Cal and Tom. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2005 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar in Austin. Services will be held there at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2005. Bob will be buried at a later date during a private family service at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, Texas.
