Retired LTJG, US Navy, Robert (Bobby) H. Brown , Sr., 85, formerly from Ashdown, Arkansas, passed away peaceful on Tuesday, December 4, 2018. Bobby was born on July 19, 1933, to Harold and Virginia Brown.
Bobby moved to Texarkana, Arkansas, attending Texarkana High School through his sophomore year where he was a star varsity football player. The family then moved to Ashdown, Arkansas attending Ashdown High School, where he continued to excel in athletics. Upon graduation he was a four-sport letterman (basketball, baseball, football and track). Bobby was also known as the "Ashdown Flash".
Bobby attended Texarkana Junior College where he played baseball. After graduation, he had planned to attend the University of Texas at Austin but the US Navy had other plans.
Bobby joined the U.S. Navy in 1953, and was subsequently transferred to Pensacola, Florida, to complete his naval aviator training. He also qualified as a U.S. Marine Corp pilot. It was there that he met and married his bride of sixty-three years, Bess Helton Brown. After spending six years in the Navy, he received an Honorable discharge due a back injury. .
After leaving the Navy Bobby and Bess decided to make Austin, Texas their home. He finished his college education at the University of Texas and graduated with a BA in Business Administration.
After making their home in Rollingwood, Texas, Bobby put his business degree to good use by opening a moving and storage company, (Brown Moving and Storage). Many years later he decided it was time to move on, so he started a real estate company and later he and his son (Robert AKA "Charlie"), started an appraisal and management company.
Bobby loved his grandchildren and attended dance recitals; baseball games; and all of their graduations and weddings. He loved it when the great-grandchildren were born. Now he could start buying toys again (especially at Christmas)!
On a more personal side, Bobby was so funny and such a prankster to everyone. He had a motto: "If it's important to you, it's important to me." Bobby was also a loyal and loving animal owner who cared very much for his pets.
Bobby also loved Christmas time because it was his favorite time of the year! In his early years Bobby would decorate their home in Rollingwood for Christmas and Bobby and Bess would have home tours for a few of the charities in Austin, mainly for the underprivileged children charities. Bobby also loved flying and travelling around the world.
To those Texarkana boys, the stories and memories will carry on through our children.
