Robert (Bob) Thomas Edwards, 86, of Austin, passed away early Tuesday morning, June 10, at the Sagebrook Health Center in Cedar Park following complications of Lewy Body Dementia. Bob was born in Houston Texas on May 28, 1928 to Kathryn and Irwin Edwards, and lived in Taylor, Texas for much of his childhood.
Bob graduated from Taylor High School in 1945, and proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1946-1947. Following his military service, he enrolled in the University of Texas at Austin where he studied psychology. On December 18, 1950, Bob married the love of his life, Nancy Davis, and this past December they celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
Following his studies at UT, Bob went to work for the Western Auto Supply Company, where he enjoyed a distinguished 35-year career, holding management positions at the local, district and regional levels in Houston and Austin. Upon his retirement from Western Auto, he discovered that a life of leisure did not suit him well, and returned for his "second career" working for the Sergeant-at-Arms of the Texas State Senate, until his retirement in 2001.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Nancy; son Michael Edwards and wife Leslie of Mount Airy, Maryland; daughter Marcia Evans and husband Rick, of Leander; grandchildren Kristi Evans and Kathryn Elizabeth Edwards; and great-grandchildren Christian Garza and Noah Garza.
Bob was a member of Riverbend Church, and a member of the American Legion Travis Post 76. He was also an avid, lifelong Longhorn fan. Above all, Bob was a devoted, thoughtful, and loving husband and father. We will all miss him greatly.
The family wishes to express its heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and other caregivers at Sagebrook Health Center and Heartland Healthcare Center for their compassionate care, and to the staff of HALO Senior Care, especially Tess, who diligently watched over Bob around the clock.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047 http://www.lbda.org/
A private celebration of Bob's life will be hosted by the family later this summer.
