Rita was born in Anadarko, Oklahoma on February 2, 1935 and spent her early years there before moving to Searcy Arkansas. She attended Harding College, where she received her teaching degree.
Her first teaching job was in Bartlesville, OK and it was there that she met her husband Carl F. Crownover, while teaching him piano lessons. They were married in 1957 and had a daughter, Carla, in 1961. The family moved to Corpus Christi in 1966, where Rita was National New Neighbor of the Year, a member of the Garden Club, the Monday Forum, and a docent at the Art Museum.
They moved to Austin in 2007 to be closer to their daughter. Rita was a member of the Westover Hills Church of Christ.
Rita was a dearly loved wife and devoted mother and a truly gracious and special lady. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Carl F. Crownover; her daughter Carla Crownover; and Sister Mary Cheyne (Ron) of Granbury. She will be truly missed.
