Richard Nathan “Nate” Branson of Austin, TX, was born on July 15th, 1974 in Oklahoma City and passed away on December 9th, 2019. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was raised in Midland, TX, and graduated from Midland High School in 1992. After graduation, Nathan attended the University of Oklahoma (Go Sooners) and graduated from Texas Tech University. He is predeceased by his grandparents, Richard and Marion Gholston and Claude and Audrey Branson; aunt and uncle, Col. Claude “Bus” and Kay Branson and uncle, Stewart Colley. He leaves behind his mother, Marion “Meg” Branson; father, Ray “Skip” (Lisa) Branson; sister, Meredith (Mark) Hartman and nephews Luke and Dane Hartman; aunts, Starr (Robert) Baum and Kathleen Colley; cousins, David (Lori) Branson, Dana (Eric) Lehew, Richard Colley, Elizabeth “Lizzy” (Sam) Walker, Stewart Walker, and Charles (Britany) Colley, and his beloved cats, Nate Jr. and Loty.
A gifted athlete, Nathan lettered in both football and basketball at Midland High. For many years he boxed as an amateur and often sparred with professionals. An avid OU sports fan, he recently attended the OU/Baylor Big 12 championship game (OU won!) saying it was an “unreal” experience. He loved hunting with his lifelong Midland buddies and playing golf with Wally. With his virtual encyclopedic knowledge of sports facts, particular OU football and boxing, he was the go-to guy if there was ever need to settle a dispute. Nathan was also an adventurous traveler who always had his bags packed, ready to go.
Nathan greatly enjoyed his work and colleagues, especially his supervisor, Jay Stone, at ABC Supply Co., often saying it was the best job he ever had.
Nathan was handsome (he’s blushing), funny, life of the party, and great friend to many. His ‘best’ friend, however, was his little sis, Meredith. His energy and smile truly lit up a room like no other. Anyone who came into contact with him can attest to that. Nathan will be deeply missed; gone but never forgotten!
The family wishes to express deep gratitude to Nathan’s many cherished friends and colleagues for their love and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Nathan’s name can be made to a cat shelter of choice. A celebration of Nathan’s life will be held in Midland on a date to be determined.
