With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, Reece Emily Richeson, after a brave battle with brain cancer. Born April 11, 2007, in Nebraska and taken from us too soon on May 13, 2024. Reece passed at home surrounded by her family.
Her life continues to be celebrated by her mother, Kierstin Abernathy; her father, Joseph Richeson; her step mother Apryl Richeson; and her 5 brothers Pacey Richeson, Ayden Wallmann, Leonidas Richeson, Godryk Richeson, and Bear Richeson. Her memory is honored also by her grandparents Danny & Lori Magness (Poppa and Omie); Danny & Sandy Abernathy (Grandad & Grandma Sandy); Benell Canavan (MeeMaw); and Charlotte Frost (YaYa), as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Reece touched the lives of all who knew her. She brought immeasurable joy and light into our lives with her kind heart, radiant smile, infectious laugh and boundless curiosity.
As a natural performer, she deeply enjoyed the spotlight with her gifted talents, and loved sharing that through dance, choir, and social media. Reece never turned down an opportunity to try new adventures, from ghost hunting to welding to fishing to playing the cello to exciting new hairstyles and fashion to summer travels and did it all with a level of spirit that left nothing to be desired. Reece was always so confident, she exuded a character of natural wisdom beyond her years in perfect cadence as not just the oldest sibling or oldest cousin, but in anything she believed was the right way to be. She was a perfect way-paver to her generation. She looked forward to her time spent with both friends and family equally, and valued her relationships with all. Though her time with us was too brief, the depth of love and happiness she shared will forever remain in our hearts. The angels and God in heaven have received what we on earth know is a gift.
Reece’s battle with brain cancer does not end with her life on earth. She always had unique and tremendous empathy for others, commonly placing others’ needs above her own. This continues through her selfless contributions to help others in research for a cure. Reece donated to Cornell University’s research study known as, “Gift From A Child.”
A visitation for Reece will take place on Tuesday, May 28, from 5 PM - 8 PM, at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, 9700 Anderson Mill Rd, Austin, TX 78750. A service celebrating Reece’s precious life will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 11 AM at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, where friends and family are invited to remember a life that, albeit short, was truly a gift to us all. A burial following the service will be held at Cook Walden Capital Parks, 14501 North Ih-35, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
In lieu of flowers, donations to “The Cure Starts Now” are appreciated.
