He was born on October 15th, 1938; he grew up in Kingsland, Texas on the Llano River. He had 3 brothers and two sisters and as a young man served in the marines for 4 years. He worked in the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 67 for over 30 years.
At his passing, he was retired and enjoyed music, woodworking, spending time with family, hunting, fishing, old cowboy movies, and shopping for antiques with his wife, Mary. He was an honorary Texas Ranger.
Gary was predeceased by his wife Mary Long, with whom he was married to in 1956, as well as his daughter Terri Long. He is survived by his Daughter, Sherri Long; Son, Danny Long and wife Alison; Grandson, Joshua Hayes and wife Sasha Hayes; Granddaughter, Jennifer Saenz and husband Richard Saenz; Grandson Dillon Long and Great-Grandchildren, Elizabeth Hayes and Hunter Saenz.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 4th, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 4th, 2014 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks.
