Raynaldo "Ray" Rivas, aged 75, passed away on July 1, 2024, in his hometown of Austin, Texas. Born on July 8, 1948, also in Austin, Ray was a cherished local figure known for his vivacious spirit and generous heart.
Ray graduated from Johnston High School, where he first developed his passion for music, a theme that would joyfully play throughout his life. He served honorably in the Navy for 19 months, where his bravery and leadership were recognized with a Bronze Star for Heroic Achievement after he saved his entire crew.
Following his military service, Ray continued to touch lives with his caring and generous nature. He was a devoted son to his late parents, Cristino Garcia Rivas and Mary Rivas, and a loving father and grandfather. He was dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and kept a candle lit in his bedroom as a reminder of God’s love for him and his family. He was a good man of great faith who prayed daily for those he loves, especially for his brother-in-law, Elias, who is a cancer survivor.
Ray's love for music was evident as he was often seen with his guitar, and his melodious voice was a gift he gladly shared with those around him. His hobbies included fishing, playing pool, and watching football, activities that he often enjoyed in the company of friends and family.
Ray is survived by a large and loving family: his sisters Christine Limon (Elias Limon) and Delia Rivas; his children, Tina Marie Rivas, Dustin Rivas, Margaret Garcia, Vanessa Garcia, Alex Garcia, David Garcia, and Stephen Garcia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and 20 grandchildren who will miss him dearly.
The Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home at 2620 South Congress Avenue in Austin, TX, is assisting the family during this time. Ray's life will be celebrated and remembered for the joy and love he brought into the world and the beautiful smile that could light up any room.
