Vince graduated Valedictorian from Troup High School and attended the University of Houston. He served honorably in the Air Force, worked in Houston in the mortgage business and later in residential real estate in both Houston and Austin.
As a young accomplished pianist, Vince was an integral part of numerous gospel groups. As an adult, he continued his music ministry in Houston at Spring Branch Nazarene Church, and after moving to Austin shared his talent with his home church Covenant Presbyterian since 2003.
In addition to his love of all kinds of music, Vince was passionate about giving back. He founded a family charity labeled “In Need of Kindness”, gave generously to Street Youth Ministry and, at the time of his death, was planning a donation to Cuban ministries through Covenant Presbyterian members.
Vince was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Era (Fitch) Obar, one brother-in-law Don Merrill and father-in-law Ira Kee. He is survived by his wife Jan, daughter and son-in-law Michael and Nicole Williams, sister JoAn Merrill, mother-in-law Ruby Kee, grandson and granddaughter-in-law Joshua and Adria Williams, granddaughter Morgan Williams, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Carl and June Coleman, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
For over five years Vince was under the superb care of Dr. Demetrius Loukas. Recently, he received care from Hospice Austin. Special thanks go to Debbie, Tania, Jack, Stephanie and Jessica. Their tender loving care made it possible for him to have his greatest wish --- to remain at home.
Memorial Services will be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 17th of May 2014, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Drive, Austin, TX 78757.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Covenant Presbyterian for the Vince Obar Memorial Fund to continue his passion for giving back.
Arrangements under the direction of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, Austin, Texas.
