She grew up with one sister, Joyce and two brothers, Eugene and Larry. The town where she lived was full of relatives, and she always spoke fondly of her family. Her parents were Everett and Nettie Eddy. When she was a teenager, the family moved to Pharr, Texas.
In Pharr, Phyllis met a man she always described as tall, dark and handsome. Louis (Jack) Tyler and Phyllis Eddy were married in 1945. They made their home in McAllen and soon had a busy household with four children, Jack, Dorothy, Norma and Janice. Friends and Relatives were always welcome for Sunday dinners, holidays, birthdays, any family celebrations.
In 1960, the family moved to Austin, and a few years later, Louis was offered a job that would take the couple to employment opportunities in The Bahamas, Curacao and Jamaica. In 1970, after 25 years together, Louis was called home to heaven and Phyllis had to adjust to life without her soul mate. She went to classes to earn her GED, and trained for a job in childcare. She worked until her health problems left her struggling with limited mobility.
Phyllis always enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was happiest in the kitchen preparing a big dinner; she loved hungry people, the more the merrier.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery located at 14501 N. IH-35 in Pflugerville, Texas.
