Petra "Pat" Guerrero, 88, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 20, 2023. A beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Pat touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed.
Born in Luling, Texas, Pat was one of six children in a close-knit family raised by their devoted single mother, Maria Alvina Cortinas. Pat is preceded in death by her mother, her brother Joe Cortinas, and Sister Vera Erdman.
At the young age of 20, Pat married Eligio Guerrero, her loving husband of 69 years. Together, they built a life filled with love and raised three beautiful daughters: Olga, Yolanda, and Yvonne. Pat's steadfast love and support were invaluable to her family, particularly to her eldest daughter Olga, who required extra care.
Pat had worked as a cook at Dawson Elementary School in the 1960's and spent many years later as a hairstylist. She was a great cook, particularly her menudo and her caldos. Eligio, her husband fondly remembers her as a good dancer. Pat loved roses and plants that were vibrant and colorful, and she was highly organized, seemingly running the household effortlessly. Everyone who knew her regarded her as elegant. She was a fan of UT football and was especially fond of watching golf and her “novelas”.
Pat is survived by her husband, Eligio Guerrero, her daughters Olga Guerrero, Yolanda Guerrero-Goodman and her husband, Erik Goodman, Yvonne Pearson, her grandchildren Adrian Gonzalez and his wife Jessica Friedman, Daniel Gonzalez of Birmingham, Alabama, and Elissa Goodman of Austin, Texas. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who cherish her memory.
Rest in peace, Pat. Your legacy of love, strength, and devotion will forever be remembered by those who were blessed to know you. Your memory is a blessing.
