Peter C. (Pete) Quoyeser, 93, of Austin, Texas, died on August 30, 2023. He was born in Tampico, Mexico on December 15, 1929, the son of James J. and Alison Wright Quoyeser. In 1942 he moved to Caracas, Venezuela with his family.
He is a graduate of St. Stanislaus Preparatory College in Bay St. Louis, MS, and the University of Texas, where he graduated with a B.A. degree, earned an LLB degree, and was elected president of the law school class. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
After serving in the U.S. Army for 2 years, Pete worked for the Venezuelan subsidiary of the American Can Company in Caracas. He returned to Texas in 1957 and married Mary Catherine (Cay) Berthelot of Victoria, Texas on November 23, 1961.
Pete worked for Amoco Corporation for 32 years and earned industry recognition as an accomplished international petroleum negotiator, having represented Amoco in contract negotiations in numerous countries worldwide.
All who knew Pete remember and treasure his good humor, wit, grace, and ever-present smile. Pete was an accomplished athlete and an avid sports fan. A decorated high school tennis player and gifted boxer, Pete was also an intramural champion in soccer and various racquet sports at the University of Texas. He enjoyed both recreational and competitive tennis for many years. In retirement, he treasured his twice weekly golf games.
Pete adored his grandchildren and was extremely proud of their academic and professional accomplishments. The football career of his grandson, Mitch, which extends to this day in the National Football League, was a source of great joy.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Joseph Quoyeser and his sister, Jean Quoyeser Taylor. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Cay, and his children and their spouses: Joseph Quoyeser (Marianne), Mary Dickerson (Charles), and Catherine Morse (Kevin); his grandchildren, Mitchell Morse (Caitlin), Robert Morse, Alexander and Oliver Quoyeser, Ellena and Mary Catherine Dickerson; and his great grandchildren, Kennedy Marie and Deacon Morse. He is also survived by many adoring nieces, nephews, cousins, and admirers.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home, 5416 Parkcrest Dr., Austin, TX 78731. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church, 7601 Burnet Road, Austin, Texas 78757. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery One, New Braunfels, TX 78130.
