Peggy was born in Hull, Texas to Myrtle and Hale Johnston on April 7, 1926. She graduated from Hull-Daisetta High School in 1943 and then attended Southwestern University and the University of Texas. A highlight of her college years was being chosen Sun Bowl Princess for the New Year's football game in El Paso in 1945. While attending Southwestern University she met Jack Spencer Moore. Jack, who became the love of her life, was in the V-5 Navy Program. They married in 1948 and enjoyed over 50 years of marriage. Jack practiced oral surgery in Austin for many years.
Peggy was active in many organizations in Austin including Alpha Delta Pi, Assistance League of Austin, Austin Dental Auxiliary, Capital Art Society, Austin Art League, and the Readers' Guild Auxiliary. A well-known artist, she created many landscapes, still life, and portraits.
Peggy has been a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for sixty years.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Moore. She is survived by her daughters Becky Moore McDonald and husband, Brent; Diane Moore Wagner and husband, Lonnie; as well as grandchildren Amanda Sutliff and husband, Graham; Megan McDonald and fiancé, Sammy Tamparello; Lauren Wagner, great-grandchildren, Shelby and Price Sutliff, and sister, Janet Johnston Hulett.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3208 Exposition Blvd., Austin, TX on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 1 p.m.
