In 1974, he served as Director of Family Practice Residency at Breckenridge Hospital, Austin, TX. In 1976, he became a staff physician at the Austin State School and later Medical Director of that facility. In the early 1990's, he continued his career as an administrator at the State level in the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation until his retirement in 2000.
