Paul T.Alcala, age 84, of Austin, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, 22 January 2019. He was born on 18 June 1934, in Manor, Texas, to the late Jose and Juanita (Torres) Alcala. Paul was a lifetime resident of Austin. He worked in the maintenance department of the University of Texas at Austin from 1984 until his retirement from the university in 1999. His favorite pastimes were fishing, gardening, and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys. He especially enjoyed dancing with his wife of 68 years, Maria Rosalez. Their home was the focal point of frequent gatherings and celebrations which enriched the lives of many generations of Alcala family members and friends. He and Maria often made pilgrimages to the Basilica of San Juan del Valle in San Juan, Texas, an Alcala family tradition.
Paul will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Maria; his surviving siblings, brothers, Manuel, Jose, Daniel; sister, Linda Celedron; his children, Rosemary Alcala Vaughan, Leonard, Susan Alcala Geller, and Rene; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and many beloved extended family members and friends. Pall bearers will be Nicholas Alcala, Michael Barrera, Robert Alcala, Tony Rosales, John Thompson, Dio Ybarra, Miguel Orta, Adam Alcala, and Danny Alcala.
A visitation and rosary will be held on Thursday, 24 Jan 19, at 7 P.M. at the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home South, 2620 South Congress Avenue, Austin Texas 78704. A mass will begin at 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 25, 2019 at Holy Family American Catholic Church, 9322 FM812, Austin Texas 78719. Burial will take place at the Assumption Cemetery, 3650 South IH 35 Frontage Road, with a reception to follow at the Holy Family American Catholic Church.
