Patrick Shane Palmer was born July 9, 1964, in Wichita Kansas to Paul Raymond and Theresa Jeanette Palmer. He was the youngest of 5 children. In 1965 he and his siblings moved to Seneca, Kansas where he attended elementary school at St. Peter and Paul Catholic School until 1973. In his 4th grade year, the Palmer family moved to Austin, Texas. Kansas was where Patrick learned to follow his older brothers and sister around on his grandparent’s farm and began to play ball, collect baseball cards and become a sports enthusiast in a very competitive family. He and his siblings all shared his sports enthusiasm. He took these interests with him to Texas but never forgot his allegiance to the Kansas City Chiefs, Royals and Jayhawks. He loved Major League baseball Hall of Famer, George Brett, and also became an avid Larry Bird Boston Celtic fan, as well as a Notre Dame Fighting Irish football fan. He was very proud of his Irish heritage. Patrick was a walking encyclopedia of sports facts.
When Patrick completed elementary school in Austin Texas, he went on to excel as a first chair trumpet player with the award-winning Crockett Cougar Band, winning several state championships. After graduating from Crockett High School in 1982, he followed his brothers to Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and a Minor in Accounting. After a brief bartending stint at the Filling Station Bar and Grill in Austin, he decided to put his accounting talents to use, again following his three brothers to the Texas Department of Transportation. Here he processed revenue collections for 254 counties. Everyone statewide knew and loved Patrick Palmer. In 2017, following the retirement of his brothers, he too decided to retire with 25 years of dedicated service.
Patrick was an active member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. He served as an Usher, Eucharistic Minister and 4th degree knight in the Knights of Columbus Catholic Fraternal Organization. Most importantly, Patrick was a loving son, brother and uncle to nine nieces and nephews. He was everyone’s coolest uncle! Each year at Christmas, the kids would all gather around for an annual picture with Uncle Pat!
Patrick is survived by his mother Theresa Jeanette, his brothers, Stephen (Ella) and Michael (Becka), sister Theresa (Sam), and nine nieces and nephews: Christopher, Ryan, Nicholas, Michelle, Jonathan, Jayne, Moriah, Daniel and Joshua and five great nieces and nephews, Katherine, Olivia, Erin, Trevor and Owen, as well as many cousins and countless friends!
