Patricia Elizabeth Sustaita

Patricia Elizabeth Sustaita (Rivera) Patricia (Pat) Elizabeth Sustaita, 62, formerly of Waco, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 24, 2008. Patricia, who was living in Miami, fought a long and courageous battle against heart disease with dignity and grace. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home Chapel located at 2620 S. Congress Avenue in Austin. Patricia was born on June 16, 1946 in Waco, Texas. She was adopted by a very loving and devoted couple, Abraham and Esther Rivera. She grew up in Waco and attended Sul Ross Elementary, St. Mary's Catholic School, West Junior High, and Waco High School. She married Manuel Sustaita on August 9, 1969 at St. Louis Catholic Church. Patricia later became a member of the Latin American United Methodist Church. Patricia worked as a medical transcriptionist for the Veteran's Administration Medical Center and for various physician's offices in the Waco area. In 2003, Patricia moved to Austin to live with her daughter, Melissa, and remained there for three years. Patricia later moved to Miami to live with her eldest daughter Angela and her husband, Manny Ruiz. Patricia taught her two loving daughters to face life's obstacles with strength, perseverance and a great sense of humor. She will remain a source of strength and inspiration to her family and friends who are blessed to have had Patricia be a part of their lives. She will be greatly missed. Patricia was known for having a sharp sense of humor with a quick-witted style that only she could deliver. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, traveling, listening to music, playing Wii, gardening, sewing, and cooking (and eating). While in Miami, Patricia missed her home state of Texas and the TexMex comfort foods that she grew up with. Survivors include daughters, Angela Sustaita-Ruiz and husband Manny Ruiz of Miami, FL, and Melissa Sustaita of Austin; grandchildren Caitlin Richter, Elliott Richter, Briani Ruiz, Jonathan Ruiz and Elena Ruiz; and many dear cousins and friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Miami Jewish Home and Hospital in Miami, FL for their outstanding love, care and service to Patricia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Patricia's honor to the Latin American United Methodist Church, American Heart Association, or any non-profitable organization of your choice.
