Born on January 20, 1936 in New York City, NY, she was the only child to Emily L. Ackland and Walter A. Byrnes. Growing up in New York City, Pat had a loving, extended family that she cherished and stayed connected to all her life. She and her parents moved to Waterbury, CT in her youth. “Pat” married the late Myles G. DuBay Sr. and had 3 children, Leslie, Myles Jr., and Jean. Later in life Pat married the late John Sovia of Naugatuck, CT.
Pat devoted her life toward the helping professions, working as a nurse’s aide and for the State of Connecticut Division of Mental Retardation. She had a love for many activities, e.g., ballroom dancing, line dancing, making prayer shawls, watching crime dramas, reading one of her thousands of books, watching ‘Judge Judy” or loving her devoted family. Pat served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Francis Catholic Church, Naugatuck, CT.
Pat was the happiest surrounded by her family, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As the family matriarch, she enjoyed hosting family gatherings, dinners, sleepovers with her granddaughters, being “GiGi”, taking her family to NYC at Christmas and going to Radio City Music Hall.
Pat had a flare for fashion, wearing her mink stole to her granddaughter's wedding in the warm Texas Spring. She took her title of Gigi very seriously, doting over her great-granddaughters. And even her furry-babies felt the Gigi love and could do no wrong. One thing was certain, Pat’s heart saw no bounds.
Pat is predeceased by John Sovia, Myles DuBay Sr. and most recently, son (in-law) David Shaw.
Pat is survived by her daughter Leslie (Ronnie) Mansolo of Austin, TX, daughter Jean Shaw of Cedar Creek, TX, son Myles (fiancé Yvette) DuBay Jr. of Wolcott, CT, step-daughter Michelle (Roberto) Ruzza of Waterbury, CT, granddaughters Kelly (Justin) Olsen of Hutto, TX and Casey (fiancé Jason) Shaw of Middlebury, CT, grandsons Ryan (Autumn) Mansolo of Murfreesboro, TN, Myles P. (fiancé Kelly) DuBay of Cheshire, CT, Kyle DuBay (Joyce) of Wolcott, CT, and Tony Sovia of Oakville, CT and her sweet little great-granddaughters Rhylan, Emery and Sloane Mansolo.
