Patricia Ann "Pat" Sanford died unexpectedly at Seton Hospital on Friday, January 15, 2016 in Kyle, Texas at the age of 64. She was born on March 2, 1951 in Kosciusko, Mississippi to Tullos Upton Horn and Annie Obera “Bea” Sanders Horn. She moved with her parents to Austin when she was 13. After graduating from McCallum High School in Austin, she began attending night classes at Durham’s Business College studying computers, operations, and accounting. The same year she was able to secure her first job as key punch operator for Farmers Insurance Group. She married John C. Sanford on December 30, 1970 and they settled in Austin, Texas. In 1971, she began working for the Texas State Treasury Department and became close with co-workers who she considered her second family. The couple bought their first home in East Austin in 1972 and later moved to South Austin and bought their second home. The couple welcomed two sons, John Thomas in 1976 and James Patrick in 1980. Pat taught them about life, generosity, and showered them with unconditional love. Her children remember her as a loving, caring, giving, thoughtful, and selfless person who encouraged them to pursue their dreams.
In 2008, the family suffered the painful loss of John C. Sanford, a loving husband and father. Although it was difficult, Pat continued to help and support her children anyway she could. After her husband’s death, she stayed in Austin until she was forced to relocate due to the house being located in a flood plain. Pat then moved to a brand new home in Kyle, Texas in 2015 and lived there until her death. She was passionate about dogs and spent her spare time with her four-pawed companions, Dewey and Dusty. She annually donated to different organization such as ASPCA and the Humane Society. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and didn’t missed a General Hospital episode…. ever.
She is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, John C. Sanford; and grandson, Zayne E. Sanford. Pat is survived by her two sons, John T. Sanford and wife, Darla Kay Sanford and James P. Sanford and wife, Patricia Joy Sanford; and 5 grandchildren.
A Celebration of Pat’s Life will be at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, January 21, 2016 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. All are welcome to attend and celebrate.
