The beautiful life of Ophelia Lavernia Crenshaw Knox came to a close on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at her home in Austin, Texas. She was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Marcus H. Crenshaw (Ethel Mae Winn) in Dale, Caldwell County, Texas on October 9, 1930. Ophelia was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age and was a member of the St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Dale, Texas.
She was a devoted wife to her late husband Mr. Kermit K. Knox, Sr. and a loving mother to son Lloyd Knox who preceded her in death. Ophelia was proud of her time as a licensed cosmetologist, working for 9 years as a hairdresser. Over the course of 17 years, she opened her home to young children whom she loved dearly, stimulating their mental and physical growth. She worked in nursing at different hospitals and nursing homes for 18 years before retiring.
Ophelia is survived by her devoted children Marcus Cyphers, Keith Knox, Kermit Knox III, Ulma Knox and Mittie Knox; her beloved grandchildren Kerion Knox (Helen Rivas), Cameron Knox (Monique Zambrano), Naja Dorsey, Cree Dorsey, Malik Dorsey, Kalif Dorsey, Elijah Dorsey, Cory Knox, and Jordan Knox; her dearly treasured great grandchildren Kaelyn Knox, Konlea Knox, Kelena Knox, Kamrii Knox, Kerion Roman Knox, Amirah Dorsey, and Kreon Russell Kennedy; her sisters whom she cherished dearly, Mrs. Rosa Lee Taylor, Mrs. Effie Kemp, and Mrs. Julia Moore and husband Willie, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Ophelia will be held Friday, April 26, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Fuller Sheffield Funeral Services, 2808 E Martin Luther King Jr, Austin, TX 78702. Following the funeral service will be a committal service from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Dale Cemetery, CR 1854, Dale, TX.
