Omar J. Codina

Omar was born in Mercedes, TX, graduated from McAllen High School in 1964 and received a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin in 1969. He worked for Oncor Services for 39 years and lived in Carrollton, TX for 40 years before retiring to Austin in 2008.

His parents, Rodrigo Codina and Anita De La Rosa, preceded him in death.

Omar is survived by his wife, Melva Gonzalez Codina, and his children Alan Codina and Claudia McWhorter, both of Austin, as well as grandchildren Beck McWhorter, Campbell Codina and Stratton Codina. Omar is also survived by brothers Edward of San Antonio, Richard of Sacramento, CA, Robert of McAllen, and Daniel of McAllen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, May 13, 2012 with recitation of the holy rosary at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 14, 2012 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, located at 4800 Convict Hill Road in Austin, Texas.
