Bessie Oleta Witcher Stone passed away on July 21, 2012 with her loving family by her side. She was known by family and friends as “Oleta”. Oleta is survived by two daughters, Pam Mitchel and husband Keith; Karen Devlin and husband Mike, all of Leander, Texas; seven grandchildren: Ray, Royce, and Lauren Mitchel, Jon, Jason, and Lindsay Devlin, and Heather Conditt; and two great-grandchildren: Paxton Mitchel and Anika Mitchel. She is also survived by her brother Edward Orr Witcher of Red Rock, Texas. Oleta was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred R. Stone (Al); her daughter, Deborah Conditt; grandson, David Hall; parents William Orr and Bessie Witcher; and two sisters, Lenna Belle Duke and LaNelle Lundgren.
Oleta was born in Liberty Hill, Texas and was raised in the central Texas area with most of her childhood spent in Bertram, Texas. She met her husband, Al, in Marlin, Texas and they spent 61 years together before he preceded her in death. Oleta was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a stay at home mom while her girls were young and then went to work for the Austin Independent School District, working and then managing, the Substitute Office for 13 years. She loved God, her family, her church and her friends.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family on Tuesday, the 24th of July, from 6 o’clock until 8 o’clock in the evening at Cook-Walden Funeral Home located at 6100 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, the 25th of July at 10 o’clock in the morning at Cook-Walden Funeral Home with Interment to follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery.
