Octaviano Jaime Reyna, of Austin, was called home by our Heavenly Father at the age of 69. He was born February 2, 1934, in Mercedes, Texas to Albino and Clotilde Reyna. Octaviano grew up in the Rio Grande Valley and graduated from Mercedes in 1952, having set the track mile record which stood for 10 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 1955, rose to corporal, and was honorably discharged. In 1957, he married Olga Garza Salazar. With the G.I. Bill, he earned his B.A. from Pan American University in 1960, having been chosen among Whos Who. Octaviano embarked on a career as a professional educator with positions as a classroom teacher, principal, counselor, and Director of Juarez-Lincoln Institute. He earned his Masters from A & I University at Kingsville in 1976. His personal life was filled with family, travel, golf, singing, politics and civic groups such as: LULAC, American Legion, Image (V.P.), Jaycees and East Austin Lions (president). Octaviano is survived by his wife of 47 years, Olga Salazar Reyna; children, Cynthia Reyna, Sylvia Garcia and husband Navell, Diana Quiroz and husband Luis, and Jaime Reyna and wife Wendy; grandchildren, Nina, Neely, Alex, Diego, Rodrigo, Samuel and Vicente; great-grandchild, Hayden; brothers, Rodrigo, Armando, Roberto and Albino; as well as numerous other relatives. As we say our goodbyes to our loved one, we also say thank you for the love he bestowed on us here on earth, as our Father in heaven bestowed on him. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at South Hospital ICU. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home, Pastor Alberto Duran as officiant. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
