Norman John Ernst passed away on September 29, 2018. He was born on June 24, 1925 in Avoca, Iowa to parents John and Linnie Ernst. He was raised in Mansfield, Missouri and lived for fifty years in Bartlesville, Oklahoma where he worked for Phillips Petroleum Company and farmed before moving to his Hollow Rock Creek property near Bastrop, Texas in 2001. For the past ten years he resided at Westminster Manor in Austin.
Norman served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corp from January 1944 to February 1946 and received a degree in mechanical engineering from Kansas State University. Norman's passions were bluegrass music, farm auctions, and using his tools to build things in his shop.
Norman is survived by three children, Cliff Ernst and wife Martha, Lee Ernst and wife Lisa, Cindy Dremely and husband Mark, four grandchildren, Rex Mitchell and wife Tawni, Elizabeth Ernst-Miller and husband Robbie, Allison Ernst, and Shelby Dremely, and two great grandchildren, Mary and Kathryn Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Kathy and much loved grandson Brooks Dremely.
There will be a visitation at Weed-Corley-Fish North, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin the evening of Thursday, October 4 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Services will be held on Friday, October 5 at 10:00 am at Weed-Corley-Fish North. Graveside service will follow at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Westminster Manor and all of Norman's caregivers, especially Gale and Adja, for the wonderful care they provided to him the past few years.
