Norma Dennis Weitzel Norma Dennis Weitzel, a devoted mother and grandmother, died at age 71 at her home in Austin, Texas on September 12, 2005. Norma is survived by her two sons, Dennis Weitzel and Ken Weitzel, and by her daughter, Lorelei Weitzel, as well as her seven grandchildren Taylor, Mason, Larsen, Chaps, C.S., Lindsay and Braden. She is also survived in death by her long-time companion, Byron Nelson. A native of Gilmer, Norma was an honors graduate of Gilmer High School and a 1955 graduate of the University of Texas. In Austin, Norma worked in the Texas House of Representatives and the Texas Employment Commission. In 1957, Norma returned to East Texas, settling in Longview where she lived for more than 30 years. Later, she lived in Austin and worked at the State of Texas until her retirement in 1999. Normas proud legacy is her children. All raised in Longview, they will remember her as an attentive and loving mother. Norma will also be remembered by all who knew her as a tall, striking and proud Texan and as an ardent Longhorn devotee. Normas was a beautiful spirit whose gifts as a homemaker and as a gracious and fun-loving hostess created a welcoming place for family and friends. Norma loved entertaining, family sporting events, horseshows, and was a passionate and accomplished bridge player. Her parents Wilma Ruth and John Sharp Dennis and her sister, Johnnie Ruth Moore, preceded her in death. The family wishes to thank Hospice Austin and to Wathy Givens and Rita DeBellis who helped serve Norma as loving caretakers. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 17 at Trinity Episcopal Church, located at 906 Padon Street in Longview, Texas.
