Norma Jean Rowland, age 86 of Austin, Texas passed away May 15, 2014. Norma was the only child born to Carson T Wilson and Rosa Wilson, arriving March 24, 1928 in Kansas City, Kansas. She spent the majority of her life in Toledo, Ohio, graduating from Scott High School.
She married Donald E Rowland in 1949 after meeting him on a blind date, and together they raised two sons (Ronald and Raymond). She was a longtime member of Hampton Park Christian Church in Toledo. After the death of her devoted husband in 2006, Norma moved to Austin where she joined the Hill Country Bible Church and made many new friends.
Norma worked for the Ohio Highway Department for a few years, but she blossomed as a Clerical Specialist for Toledo Public Schools. Much of her free time was devoted to finding and restoring antiques, genealogy research, and producing church newspapers. She was loved by all who met her, and Norma was an inspiration to many who said they wanted to be just like her one day.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons Ronald E Rowland of Austin TX and Raymond C Rowland along with his wife Christina of Huffman TX, her five grandchildren Donald Rowland, Taylor Rowland, Stephen Rowland (and wife Cearrah), Carson Rowland, and Raymond “Sam” Rowland. She also leaves behind her six great-grandchildren: Raylen, Skyler, Kayleigh, Kora, Braxton, and Shyann.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to Heifer International.
