Newell Wayne King passed away on August 29, 2023, at the age of 56. He was born on November 4, 1966, in Austin, Texas, where he grew up. He attended Austin ISD schools and graduated from then-Sidney Lanier High School (now Navarro Early College High) in 1985. In 1990, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Texas-Austin while also having been a four year member of the Texas Longhorn Band.
After college, Wayne took job opportunities that moved him to Dallas, Minneapolis, the suburbs of Detroit, and Fort Worth until finally returning to his hometown of Austin. He worked for Neiman Marcus, Conway Freight, and most recently for his alma mater, The University of Texas.
Wayne was preceded in death by his mother, Wanda Lucille Ross King. He is survived by his beloved wife, Roxanne King, his father, Dunson Newell King, Jr., and his brother, David Glen King, along with several aunts, uncles, and many cousins.
Wayne and Roxanne were married in June of 2015 and lived happily together at their home in Manor. Roxanne was a perfect match for Wayne as they shared many passions and interests. Wayne was a devoted Texas Longhorn sports fan, he enjoyed vacations with his wife (particularly cruises), and he loved his wonderful dog, Katy Bear King.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Austin Pets Alive. A celebration of Wayne’s life will be at perhaps his favorite spot, Posse East, just off UT campus at 2900 Duval Rd. The King Posse Takeover will be from noon to around 4 pm on Saturday, October 14, 2023.
