Ned Parker was born on July 22, 1923 in Grandview, Texas to Maida Copeland and Thomas Jefferson Parker. He is survived by his loving wife Mildred Pfluger Parker, daughter Cindy Marks, son-in-law Michael Marks, grandchildren Jeffrey Marks and Jonathan Marks, and several nieces and nephews. Ned's siblings Flora Boyce, Beulah Culpepper, J.D. Parker, and Thomas Parker preceded him in death.
Ned attended Hillsboro Junior College prior to joining the Navy in January 1943. He served in the Navy during World War II as a torpedo man aboard the USS Fanning (DD 385). Following an honorable discharge from the Navy, He enrolled at the University of Texas graduating in 1949 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
At the University of Texas, Ned met and wed his beloved wife of 68 years Mildred Pfluger.
Ned started his 36 year career with Texas Electric Service Company (now Texas Utilities Electric Company) in Wichita Falls. He transferred to the Handley Steam Electric Generating Station in Fort Worth, where he worked as the Assistant Plant Superintendent for ten years and then in the General Office Engineering Division. Ned was responsible for the planning, design, purchasing, and construction of new generating units. He ended his 35 year career as Project Manager of the Western Division operating Support Engineering Group.
In retirement, Ned happily devoted his life to his wife and family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 1:00 PM at St. Martin's Lutheran Church. Friends and family will be received immediately following the service. Memorials may be made, either to St. Martin's Endowment Fund, Upbring (formerly Lutheran Social Services), or to a charity of your choice.
