Morris Edwin Lively, 89, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2021, in Kyle, Texas. Morris was dearly loved by his wife of 66 years, Patsye, and their children, Marilyn (David) Rawls of Pearland, Texas, Melissa Pierce of Austin, Texas and Melinda Morgan of New Caney, Texas. Morris is also survived by his grandchildren, Tiffany (Paul) Brockenbush, Destiny Rawls, Patrick (Karena) Morgan, Ben (Bre) Morgan, and Moe Morgan; great-grandchildren Brett and Tyler Brockenbush, Marshall Donalson, Shayleigh Brecken, and Esther Morgan; sister, Shirley (Joe) Milner; brother, A.D. Lively, Jr and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, A.D., Sr. and Gladys Lively, and Ruby Dunlap, sisters Virginia Lively and Linda Baxley, brothers Gary and Mike Lively, grandson Dustin Rawls; great grandson Maddox Mandagelo.
Morris graduated Palestine High School and Henderson County Junior College, Athens, Texas. He attained the rank of Army Sergeant First Class in the Quartermaster and served in Germany and in Korea during the Korean War. Morris worked for I&GN, Missouri Pacific, and Union Pacific Railroads for 39 years. He served 9 years on the Westwood ISD School Board in Palestine, Texas, and as president 3 of those years – always an avid supporter of the WISD Band Program. He was very active in the church, Evangelistic Temple, in which his in-laws, Rev. and Mrs. Tom Potts, had an integral part in the founding. He served as a Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent and Deacon. Morris enjoyed coaching his daughters’ softball teams, watching sports, and woodworking. After retirement, along with Patsye, he enjoyed travelling the world with Lively Tours.
Graveside Services will be at a later date at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038, with Richard Ater officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be A.D. Lively, Jr., Robert Mullen, Bill Pittman, David Rawls, Don Plant, Paul Brockenbush, and Frank Perez.
