She was married to Roy E Simpson for 36 years until his death in 1984. She was employed by the Delta Kappa Gamma Society for 41 years until her retirement in 1995. She filled her retirement years with travel with friends and many volunteer activities. She was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary Post 8787 for 60 years. Both she and her husband were officers in the local Post as well as holding offices at the state level. She also volunteered at the VFW State Headquarters, Care Givers, Northwest Baptist Church, and her neighborhood association.
She was proceeded in death by her parents Finley and Hazel Barnett of Austin, Texas.
She is survived by her daughter Janice and husband Kenneth Sandberg Jr, grandson Stephen and wife Jill Sandberg, grandson Carl and wife Emily Sandberg, and 5 great grandsons: Kyler, Drew, Reed, Ryan, and Kohen.
She is also survived by three sisters in-law: Gladys Simpson, Judy Luker, Jane and husband Danny Dunham, brother-in-law Claude Dedear, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Services will be held at Cook - Walden Funeral Home on North Lamar, March 17 at 2pm. Visitation will be at 1 pm. Burial will follow the service at Cook - Walden Memorial Hill Park.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Sandberg, Carl Sandberg, Bob Feuerbacher, Lynn Simpson, Mike Dunham, and Doug Dedear.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Northwest Baptist Church, 6301 Woodrow Ave, Austin, Texas 78757.
