Mike joined the United States Air Force at age 17 and worked as an aircraft crew chief/mechanic for the Strategic Air Command (SAC). He was stationed in Texas, North Dakota, New York, Germany, and Guam, before finally retiring in 1966 after 20 years of dedicated service. He worked at Criss Cole Rehabilitation Center for the Visually Impaired and the Texas School for the Blind before retiring for good in 1992. He then spent his time doing the things he loved most: hosting family gatherings, traveling in his motor home, fishing, feeding birds, puttering, tinkering, and watching John Wayne movies.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, four brothers – Beryl, Larry, Ken and Charles, second wife, Loise, and by his son, Russell.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Alma Jean Hadd-Maas, their kids - Michael & Lisa Maas, Richard & Debbie Dennis, Tim & Amy Maas, Don & Christine Hadd, Bob & Laura Hadd, Michael & Debra Hadd, Mary & Rus Eaton, grandchildren – Christopher & April Maas, Chelsea & Anthony Graves, Marissa Maas, Sloan & Chelsea Dennis, Emily & Lane Ottmers, Brandon Maas, Brittany Maas, Andy & Sarah Hadd, Lisa Hinkley, Jennifer & Greg Baden, Shawn Hadd, Raymond & Angela Hadd, Anthony Hadd, David Anderson, Darryl & Stephanie Anderson and Stacey Anderson, and great-grandchildren – Tripp, Keyser, Abby, Layna, Kaylee, Heather, Hudson, Evan, Jason, Trevor, Amber, Matthew, Atticus, Wren, Candice, Shannon, Austin, Madison and Aiden. He’s also survived by siblings and their spouses – Juanita Maas, Mavis & Oliver Thompson, Donald & Sheila Maas, Norma & Harold Schneider, Mary & George Holgard and Kathy & Mike Hurley, and their families, and by his former wife, Roberta Cavness.
The family would like to thank Aseracare Hospice, particularly Deandra Black, Cedar View Rehab Center, and Parmer Woods Assisted Living, particularly Glen Wise, for their special care of Mike.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., Monday, May 28, 2012 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 29, 2012 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park Mausoleum with Full Military Honors under the auspices of the U.S. Air Force.
