Mildred Carla Hommel Stevens Whiteside Mildred was born in Watertown, South Dakota, on August 15, 1912 to Bertha Victoria Gray and George Hommel. She grew up in San Benito, Texas, and became a resident of Austin in 1940. Mildred passed away on March 7, 2008, at Westminster Manor in Austin, Texas. Mildred was an avid equestrian in her youth and became a competitive ballroom dancer, talented bridge player, accomplished gardener and porcelain artist. She was a founding member of Tarrytown United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by her two husbands, Joseph Murray Stevens in 1963 and Clyde Clarence Whiteside in 2007, as well as by her son, Jon Murray Stevens, in 2005. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Gray Stevens and Eric Lee Oshlo, and by her two granddaughters and sons-in-law, Lisa Ann Oshlo and Eric John Moutz, and Laura Michelle Oshlo and Bradley Scott Burleson, and great-grandchildren, Thatcher and Gray Burleson. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at Austin Memorial Park. The memorial service will be held in the sanctuary of Tarrytown United Methodist Church, 2601 Exposition Blvd., at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 with a reception following at the church after the service.
