Midge was born on January 18, 1937, in Hereford, Texas where she grew up. She graduated from Howard University with a Masters in Clinical Social Work in 1980. She later earned a Certificate in Psychotherapy from the Washington School of Psychiatry. She worked at the Hospice of Northern Virginia before going into private practice counseling couples and individuals. She owned and operated the Herndon Counseling Center in Herndon, Virginia.
After her husband retired from the United States Marine Corps, the family settled in Northern Virginia. She lived in Herndon, Virginia for over thirty years before relocating to the Austin area in 2019. While living in Herndon, Virginia, she was actively involved in Floris United Methodist Church and the Fortnightly Club. She was a founding member of the Friends of Runnymede Park, a nature organization that assists the Town of Herndon in promoting nature-related activities in the park. She served on the Herndon, Virginia School Board for a number of years.
Midge is preceded in death by her father, Alonzo McDaniel Kelley; mother, Velera Viola (Mandrell) Kelley; sisters Etheleene Mae Smith, Mary Juanita Owen, Helen Marie Owens, and Margarette Lee Daniels; and brothers Kenneth Clifton Kelley, Douglas McDaniel Kelley, and Virgin Orvil Kelley.
She is survived by her Husband, Lieutenant Colonel John Harlon Reece, USMC (retired); son Shaun Patrick and wife Kaillie; son, Brian Kelley and wife Kathy; grandchildren Crystal Valdez, Jose Reece, and Ryan Reece; and seven great grandchildren.
Interment will be at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
