Mike grew up in west Texas, graduating from Lee High School in Midland, Texas in 1996. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban Studies from the University of Texas at Austin in 2008 and shortly afterwards began his career as a teacher in Round Rock, teaching United States history in the eighth grade.
Mike is survived by his wife, Amy Pruden; his two young daughters, Riley and Amerie Pruden; mother, Kathy Pruden; father, David Pruden; and two younger brothers, Randy and Marcus Pruden. He is also survived by numerous extended family members, including many uncles, aunts, in-laws and his grandparents.
Mike was completely devoted to his family and strove to provide a stable, loving home for his children. He often spoke of his daughters proudly, and it was clear that his family was the most important aspect of his life. He enjoyed being athletic and spent several years studying martial arts. It was through martial arts that Mike discovered his natural aptitude for teaching, which he eventually made into a career. Mike is beloved by many students, past and present, as well as a close-knit group of colleagues at Cedar Valley Middle School.
It is impossible to number how many lives Mike has touched in his role as friend, teacher, son, husband and father. As one of his many friends said, "Mike was the best of what makes a good man."
