Michael Malcomb Nixon, 78, of Kerrville, Texas died at his home on Thursday, December 20, 2018, with his wife and beloved dog, Coco at his side. "Mike" as he was called by family and friends, was born in Brady, Texas on December 4, 1940.
After graduating Brady High School, he attended the University of Texas, where he studied pharmacology. He also served in the Army National Guard of Texas, CO C 3d Bn 112th ARMOR, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1971. He was employed by the United States Postal Service for 35 years, working his route on foot for many years, but was awarded the Million Mile Pin later in his postal career signifying a perfect and accident free driving record.
Mike was a faithful Dallas Cowboys football fan and loved western novels, especially Louis Lamour books. He always had plenty of his favorite drink, Dr. Pepper and M&Ms candies on hand to share with all who visited his home and was willing to help any relative or friend any time he was able. He loved to laugh and joke around but was sincere in his love for his fellow man. He was loyal to Brady Bulldogs and enjoyed games of Zilch and Bingo with his neighbors every chance he got.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother Hazel A. Nixon (Pare) his father Eugene H. Nixon Sr, and siblings Eugene H. Nixon Jr., of Colorado, Sylvia Townsend of Austin, and Susan Morrison of Euless. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Pearl Nixon of Kerrville, sons Reid Glen Nixon of Thailand, David Moreno of Horseshoe Bay, Bob Dixon of Austin, daughters Cyndi Smith of Kerrville, and Dena Dixon of Leander. Grandchildren Maya Nixon of Thailand, Sara Moreno of Horseshoe Bay, Liesel Papenhausen of Leander, Bobby Dixon of Washington, Jesse Dixon of Austin, Douglas and Steven Fuller of Kerrville, and one great-grandson Aiden Jewitt of Horseshoe Bay.
The family would like to thank Peterson Hospice of Kerrville for their hard work and their dedication to our family. The nurses and aides during the difficult days of illness were Heaven sent and gratefully received- RN's Harley, Aaron, Dawn, and Julie can never be thanked enough.
A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be at 3:30 P.M., Wednesday, December 26, 2018 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
