Michael Wayne Gray

Michael Wayne Gray passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones after an extended battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Trudy Gray and brother Paul Gray.

Michael was born in San Marcos Texas to a British mother and military father. His family settled in San Antonio where he met Cynthia.

After getting married in 1984, Michael and Cynthia moved to Austin. Michael was a loving and devoted husband for thirty-nine years. Their bond was an example of a loving Christian marriage. Through the years Michael and Cynthia welcomed many cats into their life and home. Michael doted on his fur babies.

Michael had a passion for baseball and was a lifelong fan of the Astros. He loved attending games in Houston, UT games in Austin and minor league games in Round Rock.

He retired in 2017 from Travis County Records Management and Communication Resources where he worked as a supervisor for twenty-four years. Michael was surrounded at work by a close knit team who loved and respected him.

He received a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from UTSA as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies from the Institute for Christian Studies. He also received a Master of Arts degree from Webster University in Business Administration. Michael loved to study and learn and took additional courses throughout the years in topics such as World Religions and Christian and Judaic mysticism.

Michael was a deeply spiritual person and consequently made the decision to convert to Catholicism. God was very present in his life and in his marriage. All those who knew Michael loved him dearly. He was intelligent, caring, compassionate and loving. He was an inspiration and a conduit of God’s love.

He is survived by his wife Cynthia as well as his brothers and sisters in law, Joseph and Laura Rubenak, William and Patti Rubenak and Thomas and CJ Rubenak. He deeply loved his nieces Allison, Natalie, Linda Nichole, Ivanka and nephew David. Michael was also a Great Uncle to five nieces and nephews.
