Melody was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on May 9, 1960, but lived much of her life in Beaumont, Texas. She was the eldest of three daughters. Although she was physically disabled due to cerebral palsy, Melody still accomplished ambitious goals. She graduated from Hughen School in Port Arthur and was the proud recipient of a certification in General Education Development from Austin Community College in 1999. She was a vibrant member of Ridgewood Church of Christ in Beaumont, Texas for many years and later at Brentwood Oaks Church of Christ in Austin, Texas.
A bright light in her community at Village Christian Apartments for over twenty years, she will be remembered as funny, clever, generous, creative, independent and a great dancer. Melody enjoyed listening to “talking books,” riding daring roller coasters, being a doting “Auntie M” to her nieces and watching the fishing boats return to the docks in San Diego in the summers. Those who knew Melody best described her as a “bright star,” a “blessing to all who met her, and “always wearing a sweet smile.” More than anything, she is leaving this world as an inspiration to all who knew her.
Surviving Melody are her parents Hugh and Marianne Morgan of Austin, sisters Misty Morgan Thompson of San Diego and Noelle Morgan (Alan Carr) of Dallas, and nieces Morgan Thompson, Lyla Carr, and Adeline Carr. She also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and her beloved caretakers of many years, Tina Castillo and Leticia Luna. She is pre-deceased by her devoted canine companions Corny Dog and Gracie.
To those of you who knew her, thank you for making her life remarkable; for seeing and appreciating the Melody beyond the wheelchair. She had a very good life because you included her, remembered her, and simply enjoyed her.
