Melanie Gay Nichols, born June 16, 1943 in Corpus Christi, Texas but Austin native, peacefully left this world on November 16, 2023 in the presence of her family. After graduating from McCallum High School, Melanie became a hardworking employee at Kinsolving Dormitory at the University Of Texas for 33 years. She was also a faithful member at University Avenue Church of Christ, where she loved to hear the music each week.
Her daily joys were her salon appointments, her aquatics classes at Crenshaw Athletic Club, spending time with the family dogs, driving near and far for a good meal with her loving partner and companion, James Gray, and anything Elvis related. She was known for her love of Elvis Presley; she could often be found wearing an Elvis t-shirt, her "TCB" necklace, or mentioning her several visits to Graceland.
Above all, Melanie loved and was loved by her family and friends wholeheartedly. Her laugh was infectious with absolute glee, she could make anyone smile. Melanie blessed others with her ability to find the joy in all the little things, good or bad. Her outlook on life was simple, yet larger than life, and to know her was to love her.
For those of us who know, love, and will miss her immensely; we find peace, joy, and comfort knowing that she is walking with the strength and confidence beside her Savior, Jesus Christ. Melanie, we are proud of you and your love for the Lord and all His creation. It has been an honor and a privilege to know and love you in this life. You were and always will be one of the good ones.
Melanie is preceded in death by her father, Charles S. Nichols Sr., and mother, Thelma Jane Nichols. Melanie is survived by her brother, "Sonny" Charles S. Nichols Jr. and sister, Marta Jones, with nieces and nephews: Alethea Saccoccia (Anthony and son John Luca), Cambridge Nichols (Lauren Kurek), Charles S. Nichols III, and Sutherlyn Nichols, with special appreciation to Charles Jones, who always made her laugh and Nora Nichols, who always provided a helping hand whenever Melanie needed one.
A visitation will be held November 20th, 2023 from 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm at Weed-Corley- Fish Funeral Home. A private graveside service will take place at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery.
