God has called another angel home. Our beloved Maxine H. Carr passed away on Tuesday April 8, while undergoing emergency surgery at Seton Main Hospital. Maxine was placed on this earth for 91 years.
Maxine (Harper) Carr was born in the rural community of Dry Creek, Mississippi. Her parents, Fletcher and Ina Harper, worked hard in their humble rural surroundings to put Maxine through college at Millsaps University in Jackson, MS. After graduating with a degree in English, she considered teaching, but relocated to Miami, FL. to join Braniff Airlines where she served in various sales and staff positions. She later transferred to the Dallas office of Braniff. While working in Dallas, Maxine served as their college recruiter for Braniff flight attendants, traveling all over the US in this endeavor.
Maxine met Joe while in Dallas. They were married in 1962. Maxine left her position at Braniff to follow Joe in his corporate career which took them to Indianapolis, IN., Racine Wis., and Wichita, KS. They retired to Austin in 1983 and worked together in pursuing a number of business interests. Maxine was a tireless worker, maintaining a home environment with her husband, and also a full time participant in all of their business ventures. She was an equal partner in every way. She was truly a joy, a bundle of energy, and she brought a ray of sunshine to all. To know her was to love her.
Maxine was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Harper, M.D. of Abilene, a brother Dale Harper of Houston and her parents Ina and Fletcher of Brandon, MS. She is survived by husband Joe, her son Craig Carr of Austin and her daughter Laurie Carr, D.C. of Austin. We are extremely grateful to the doctors and staff of Seton Hospital who made every effort to prolong her life.
