Mary Ann Zimmerman

Mary Ann Zimmerman, 25 year resident of Lakeway, died on March 12th from complications from a strangulated abdominal hernia. She is survived by her husband, Joe A. Zimmerman and her three children; Michael, his partner Elliot, Julie, and Kimberly. Married for 52 years to her husband Joe, they lived in Alabama, Ohio, Tennessee, Belgium, and Minnesota before moving to Lakeway in 1985. During this time she supported him in his work and travels as an active mother and homemaker. She had many interests. In the early years in Lakeway, MaryAnn was quite active in the tennis community serving on the CATA Board and for 12 years on Texas sectional committees. She was an organizer of women's teams to participate in the USTA and other leagues around Austin. She has also been active in the Women's Club of Greater Lakeway, the Lohmanns Ford Chapter of the DAR (Daughter's of the American Revolution) and more recently in several bridge groups playing both party and duplicate bridge. Her love of traveling has taken her and her husband Joe throughout Europe. In the last 10 years, they have visited many of the national parks and forests throughout the western United States and Canada. Musical theater has always been one of Mary Ann's passions. She and Joe have experienced many productions over the years in the Austin area. Mary Ann loved the theater! Her passion was transferred to all of the kids resulting in their long time involvement. In addition to their careers, Michael currently is a rehearsal accompanist, Kim is still singing, and Julie actively supports her local theatre. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in her honor to the TexARTS Association. This is a community nonprofit organization for arts excellence through professional productions and education. TexARTS will be dedicating their April 23-May 9 performances of "She Loves Me" in gratitude for the family's contributions. The Zimmerman family wishes to thank everyone for their love and support.
