Mary Elizabeth Troutman, 76, took her Savior's hand and found peace on August 24, 2010. Born in Cisco, Texas, Mary moved to Austin at a very young age and grew up in the Hyde Park neighborhood. She was a 1952 graduate with honors from Austin High School, was a member of the Red Jackets marching squad and an active member of several clubs. After raising three children, Mary returned to school and graduated with honors from Austin Community College with a degree in Real Estate. Mary was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society and was elected as a member of the Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. Mary obtained her Real Estate License in 1983 and began using her long-established connections to the community and her people skills to sell residential real estate. Recognized as a top seller while at Coldwell Banker, she went on to spend almost 18 years working for Prudential Realty. Mary was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church for several decades, and was active in many social and community activities.
Mary loved people, listening to music and dancing. Her favorite hobby was her grandchildren, but dancing was a close second because, for Mary, it was very hard to keep still when she heard music. Mary loved her family, laughing and having fun. Often accompanied by her dear friend and traveling buddy, Jan Hoover, Mary also loved to travel, anywhere, anytime, and was famous for just hopping in the car and driving without a particular destination in mind. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Sam R. Wood and Vera May (Hyatt) Wood. Mary is survived by her three children, Caren Troutman, Forrest Troutman II, and Diana (Troutman) Craver, two grandchildren and one great grandchild who captured her heart. Throughout her life, Mary remained very close to her ex-husband and life-long friend, Forrest Troutman. In addition to her immediate family, Mary is survived by her brother, Wayne Wood and sister, Dorothy Kacir. Mary had a large extended family and many, many friends, all of whom will miss her bright smile and friendly personality.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, August 26, 2010, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, North Lamar. A celebration of Mary's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 27, 2010, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, North Lamar. Graveside services will be held immediately thereafter at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive.
As Mary loved the colors and textures painted by the wildflowers, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's memory to Lady Bird's Legacy Wildflower Fund or to the charity of your choice.
