Mary attended Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth, Texas where she majored in Elementary Education and Music. She transferred to the University of Texas in Austin where she met and fell in love with Tommy Pendleton. They danced their way through the University. Tommy and Mary married in 1940 and moved to Houston, Texas. While Tommy was in the Navy in World War II Mary taught school in New London, Connecticut and in Colorado City, Texas. When Tommy's ship came in she met him on the east coast or west coast. They golfed, danced, sang, and traveled through their 46 years of marriage together.
Throughout Mary's life the church and service to others were the center of her life. Mary was the church visitor, played the piano for her Sunday School class, and delivered bread to new members. She was active in Golden K Kiwanas, baked cakes weekly for the Ronald McDonald House, and continued her love of dance.
Mary is preceded in death by parents Mattie and Jesse Pidgeon, husband Tommy Pendleton, brothers Frank and William Pidgeon.
Mary is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Pendleton Williams and son-in-law Jim; granddaughters Jessica and husband Aaron Kizer and Courtney and husband J. Scott Blair; great-grandchildren Ava, Reid, and Blake Kizer, Sloane and Rush Blair; precious nieces and nephew; and her many treasured friends.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held at Tarrytown United Methodist Church on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 11:00 am. Wear red to honor Mary.
Memorials may be made to Tarrytown United Methodist Church and the Ronald McDonald House.
