Mary Lou was born on November 18, 1928 on the south side of Chicago into a Catholic family. There she grew up rooting for the White Sox. Upon completing Morgan Park High School in Chicago, she enrolled at Mundelein College in the Windy City. Mary Lou left college early to pursue her dreams of traveling and flying and became a flight attendant for Braniff Airlines in Dallas, TX. A weekend pass used to fly to Acapulco in 1954 set the stage where she would meet the love of her life in the person of Jim Gwynn. They were wed on April 4, 1956 in Chicago whereupon Mary Lou uprooted her life to move to Mexico City where Jim worked. She did so with barely any knowledge of the Spanish language. It was in Mexico where she lovingly raised their five children.
To Jim, Mary Lou was his sweetheart, best friend, chief cook, bottle washer, and golfing companion.
To her children, Mary Lou was more than just a mother and homemaker – she was confidant, mentor, and friend.
To her grandchildren, Mary Lou served as the loving matriarch of the family and an outstanding role model for the Christian way in which she led her life.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband of 58 years, James Minor Gwynn; her daughter, Teri Olsen and her husband Glen of San Antonio, daughter, Patty Edling and her husband Matt of Austin, daughter, Lori Mazurrana and her husband Paul of Austin, son, Mike Gwynn of Austin, and daughter, Beth Gwynn Meeker of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Kristine Olsen, Lindsey Olsen, Jared Edling, Joseph Edling, Hannah Edling, Brendan Mazurrana, Thomas Mazurrana, Victoria Meeker, and Katie Meeker.
