Mary L. Estrada, age 74, was called to our heavenly father on Sunday, April 4, 2010. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Rudy Estrada Sr. "Boffo", her parents Roy and Alicia (Ortegon) Velasquez Sr., and sister, Clara Castillo. Mary is survived by her children, Alicia LaFuente (Alfred), Rudy Estrada Jr. (Vanessa), and Sally Gomez (Ramon); grandchildren, Jennifer (Robert) Gorman, Melissa LaFuente, Rudy "Boomer" Estrada III, Andrew, Iris, Steven, Ali Euresti, and April Gonzales, Alejandra and Angelina Gomez; eleven great-grandchildren; five brothers, Roy (Marie), Gilbert (Doris), Carlos (Irene), Richard (Isabel), Robert (Irene) Velasquez; sisters, Rosie Gonzales, Carmen Campos (Manuel), Esther Torres, and Amparo Vallejo and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Pallbearers are John Jr. and Isaac Estrada, Julius, Roy III, Chuck, and Craig Velasquez. Honorary Pallbearers are Jerry and Alvin Estrada, Edward and Blaze Campos, Raymond Vallejo Jr., and Andy, Steven, Mario, John Edward and Michael Velasquez. Mary, "La Doña" is remembered as the pillar of the Velasquez Family. She was dedicated to keeping the family together. She was always there when anyone needed her. Family traditions were important to her. Each year she brought family and friends together for a "tamalada" and Christmas gatherings. She enjoyed spending time with her special circle of friends "Birthday Club" for over 20 years by attending celebration dinners for each member. For many years, Mary worked in the family owned business "Roy's Taxi" as office manager alongside her father and brothers. There she developed special friendships with all the staff including the many drivers, dispatchers and business partners. Her family wishes to thank the Guadalupe Church community, the staff of HealthSouth Hospital and Riverside Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for their compassion and hospitality during her final days. Services are under the direction of Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. The Rosary will be on Wednesday, 7:00 pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mass Service will be on Thursday, 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow the mass at Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested for donations to be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
