Marvin Robert Koenig Sr., 93, died Sunday, October 5, 2003. He was born September 21, 1910, in Fayette County, Texas, to John R. and Elizabeth F. Koenig. He went to school in La Grange, where his family owned a Blacksmith shop. At the age of 18, he moved with his parents, to the Cedar Valley area of Austin, Texas. He was involved in operating his familys ranch and developing his familys land in the Koenig Lane area of Austin. Marvin served his country during World War II in the 81st Air Service Squadron, serving in Italy and North Africa. When he returned to Austin, he married Helen Lorraine Bradley, and they had one son, Marvin Robert Koenig Jr. Marvin worked as a painting contractor and continued to help in his familys ranching and land development business. His hobbies included gardening, woodworking, and raising Large Cornish chickens and French Mondain pigeons. He was a Master Breeder of French Mondains with the National Pigeon Association, and a lifetime member of the National French Mondain Association. He was also a charter member of St Catherine of Siena Church. Marvin was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth; father, John; and brother, James. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Helen; son, Marvin Jr.; grandchildren, Eugene Robert Koenig and Laura Deanne Wilson; and four great-grandchildren, Zachary Koenig, Caleb Drew Wilson, Cassie Wilson, and Ali Wilson. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 8, 2003, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Monsignor Oliver F. Johnson as celebrant.
