Marvel Marie Krekow was born on July 25, 1932 to her loving parents Theadore and Ina Knight Krekow, in Tilden Township of Cherokee County, Iowa.
Marvel lived on the Family Farm near Marcus, Iowa, which is still in production today.
Recently, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and land stewardship designated the Farm as a "Century Farm"; owned by the same family for over a 100 years. An award was presented at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, Iowa to commemorate this achievement.
In Marcus, Marvel attended grade school and high school. After classes, Marvel played softball for the Marcus Redwings womens Soft ball Club. She also played basketball, which were good enough for her to score a 50 point basketball game. Bowling was also a hobby of Marvel's.
Later, Marvel graduated from Marcus High School and was accepted to Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska, where she graduated with a teaching degree, Class of 1952.
Marvel then relocated to Long Beach, Ca. in 1957. There, she would continue her college education by attending Pierce College in West San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles, California. She taught classes there as well.
She later met Mr. Kenneth S. Bolick. They were engaged & then married on June 29, 1957 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Kenneth S. Bolick worked for Rocketdyne missile development and fabrication, mechanical troubleshooting technician in Canoga Park, California.
Marvel and Kenneth later had their first child, son Karl Martin Bolick, on October 4, 1960.
Kenneth was eventually transferred to New Orleans, Louisiana to work at "Michoud" Assembly Facility at the NASA Space Flight complex. There, his team was responsible for assembling the Apollo F1 engines, 1st stage and the J2 Rockets 3rd stage engine assemblies.
During this time, Marvel taught third grade elementary school in Slidell, Louisiana at Saint Tammany Parish for 3 years.
Then, Ken was reassigned to Los Angeles again for Rocketdyne/Rockwell Aviation, so the family moved back to California.
Marvel used to go to League bowling during the week, near Canoga Park, California, and also later at Westgate Lanes in Austin, Texas.
Ken decided to move to Austin, Texas in 1971. The family built a new house on some acreage where Marvel could grow garden vegetables and raise chickens on the edge of the Texas Hill Country, near Oak Hill Tx.
Marvel went back to work at the IRS seasonally as a temp, and was eventually offered a permanent position with the National Credit Union Administration, where she worked until retirement.
Ken had purchased a home in Port Aransas, Texas for retirement where the family would frequently go to enjoy the house, beach environment, small town life, and fishing.
Marvel has been a member of the Mount Olive Lutheran Church since it opened about 40 years ago. She taught Sunday school bible study to young children there and was much loved by everyone. Pastor Paul Meyer and Now Pastor Jason will preside over Marvel's upcoming Services, to be announced soon.
Fond memories, expressions and contributions of sympathy may be shared at Mount Olive Lutheran church or www.cookwaldenforestoaks.com for the Bolick family.
